what it's really like to visit

Machu Picchu

As one of the seven new wonders of the world and an iconic UNESCO heritage site, the Sacred City of Machu Picchu has made it to the top of many bucket lists.

Machu Picchu is situated between two mountains, making access to it very difficult.  It is hard to imagine how anything could be built here.  This religious site is a masterful feat of engineering with its many agricultural terraces and series of sophisticated water channels.

It is worth it to arrive at Machu Picchu very early in the morning and make your way to Sun Gate to watch the view as the sun rises over this breathtaking site.

While you explore these magnificent archeological grounds, you will experience many views that offer incomparable beauty.  Learn about the significance of the buildings constructed by the Incas and the purpose of each.  There are multiple theories of how Machu came to be.

Take a close look at the large stone blocks that were carefully carved and placed by each other without anything holding them together. How were the Incas able to transport them and what tools were they able to use at that time?  There are many mysteries around Machu Picchu.

Many say it is a spiritual place, an important center of energy that is felt by those who visit.  You will know what is meant by this when you visit.

There are a number of ways that you can arrive at the Sacred City. Many take the scenic train ride to Aquas Calientes then take a bus ride up the mountain to the site.

If you enjoy hiking, the Inca Trail is the most popular but there is Lares Trek and Salkantay Trek that are wonderful as well.

Staying near Machu Picchu is an experience that you will want included in your itinerary and another great way to immerse yourself into the Peruvian culture.  Whether you prefer to stay at a luxury lodge at the site or guest house nearby, there are many opportunities that await you.
